Send to someone not on Sippy
What happens when you try to send to someone who hasn't signed up yet.
What happens
If you try to send money to a phone number that isn't on Sippy yet, the transfer doesn't go through. Your funds stay in your wallet.
Instead, Sippy sends the recipient a WhatsApp invite so they can sign up.
The flow
-
You send as normal. Message Sippy on WhatsApp or use the web wallet. Enter the recipient's phone number and the amount.
-
Sippy checks if they have a wallet. If they don't, the send is paused.
-
They get a WhatsApp invite. The recipient receives a message from Sippy inviting them to create a wallet. The message includes the amount you tried to send.
-
Your money stays with you. No funds leave your wallet. You keep your balance.
-
Once they sign up, you can send again. After the recipient creates their wallet, just send the money again.
What does the invite look like?
The recipient gets a WhatsApp message from Sippy, something like:
"Someone wants to send you $10 on Sippy. Tap here to set up your wallet."
Good to know
- Your funds are never at risk. No money moves until both sender and recipient have wallets.
- The invite counts toward a daily limit -- you can send a few invites per day to prevent spam.
- You can check if someone is on Sippy by trying to send. If they're not, you'll know right away.
What's next?
- Check your balance and history -- see your sends
- Manage your privacy -- control whether your phone number is visible
