Common Questions
Answers to the most frequent questions about using Sippy.
Is Sippy free?
Sending money through Sippy costs fractions of a cent. There are no subscription fees, no monthly charges, and no hidden costs. The only expense is the network fee on Arbitrum, which is typically less than $0.01 per transaction. In Sponsored mode, Sippy covers even that for you.
Is my money safe?
Your wallet is non-custodial. That means Sippy never holds or controls your funds. Your wallet is secured by Coinbase's embedded wallet infrastructure, and only you can authorize transactions. There is no pool of user funds that could be lost or frozen. Your money sits in your own wallet on the blockchain, verifiable at any time.
What is USDC?
USDC is a digital dollar. Each USDC is worth exactly one US dollar, always. It is issued by Circle, a regulated financial company, and backed by US Treasury bonds and cash reserves. Circle publishes monthly audits to prove the backing. USDC is not a speculative cryptocurrency -- it is simply a dollar that lives on a blockchain so it can move instantly and cheaply.
Do I need crypto experience?
No. Sippy is designed so you never have to think about blockchain. You send money by typing a message on WhatsApp. The wallet, the network, the tokens -- all of that stays invisible. If you can send a WhatsApp message, you can use Sippy.
Can I send to someone who does not have Sippy?
You can try -- Sippy will send them a WhatsApp invite to sign up. Your money stays in your wallet until they create their account, and then you can send again. No funds leave your wallet until the recipient has a wallet. Setting up takes under two minutes. See Send to someone not on Sippy for details.
What if I send to the wrong number?
Blockchain transactions are irreversible. Once a transfer is confirmed, there is no way for Sippy or anyone else to reverse it. Always double-check the recipient's phone number before confirming a send. Sippy will ask you to confirm the details before processing.
Can I use Sippy outside Latin America?
Sippy works anywhere you have WhatsApp and internet access. The product is built for Latin America first -- the interface supports Spanish, English, and Portuguese, and on-ramp options are optimized for the region. But the underlying wallet works globally.
How do I get USDC?
There are a few ways:
- Receive from another Sippy user -- someone sends USDC to your phone number through Sippy
- Deposit directly -- send USDC on Arbitrum to your wallet address (visible in the web wallet or by asking Sippy for your address)
- Buy through an on-ramp -- Sippy connects you to services where you can convert local currency to USDC
What is the maximum I can send?
Sippy uses a tiered system based on your account mode:
- Sponsored mode (Sippy pays gas fees): daily and per-transaction limits apply to protect against abuse
- Direct mode (you pay your own gas): higher limits, because you are covering network costs yourself
You can check your current limits and usage by asking Sippy on WhatsApp or visiting the web wallet.
